What is Collagen?

Collagen makes up a large portion of the body. Collagen is in everything; in your bones, skin, ligaments, and joints. Collagen makes up about a third of the protein in your body and three-quarters of your skin. Collagen holds our bodies together and gives our skin a natural elasticity. It is primarily found in our tendons, ligaments, bone, cartilage, and skin. Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body. Our bodies naturally produce collagen. Collagen production and repair decline as we age through a process called ptosis. Collagen production is also affected by sun exposure, alcohol, smoking, stress, and environmental pollutants. There are 28 different types of collagens. the four most common are:
